The Indira Gandhi National Open University has introduced a Master’s Degree Programme in the field of Chemistry, i.e. M. Sc. (Chemistry). It is on Campus full time programme. The programme is offered by IGNOU School of Sciences (SOS). The IGNOU M.Sc. Chemistry Admission is offered by university in both January as well as July academic session. The main objective of this programme is to provide an opportunity to learners to pursue higher studies in the field of chemistry. The university assigns the eminent faculty from the Discipline of Chemistry to provide the education to the students who pursue this programme. The classes as well as the practicals will be held at IGNOU, Headquarters at New Delhi. Another objective to introduce this programme is to provide quality education to all the learners at post graduate level in chemistry and prepare them to get jobs in the related field.

- Eligibility Criteria: To apply for IGNOU M.Sc. Chemistry admission, the candidate should be having 3 years B.Sc. Degree after 10+2 with Major/ Honours in Chemistry
- Course Fee: Rs. 5000/- (Note: The University will keep changing the fee from time to time and one will have to find out the details from the Study Centre/Regional Centre.)
- Medium of Instruction: English
- Duration of Programme : The minimum duration of the programme is two years. However, a student can complete the programme in a maximum time of four years.

To get admission in this programme, you need to obtain the IGNOU M.Sc. Chemistry Prospectus from the nearest IGNOU Regional Centre or it can be ordered online by paying a fee in the form of Demand Draft in favour of IGNOU, New Delhi and sending to Registrar (SR&E), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068. It can also be obtained from IGNOU ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE AND ASSAM RIFLES Recognised Regional Centres. or you can download it from IGNOU official website. IGNOU M.Sc. Chemistry Admission form can be extracted from the prospectus. Fill up the admission form and submit it to your nearest regional centre.
IGNOU M.Sc. Chemistry Courses :
To successfully complete the M.Sc. Chemistry programme from IGNOU, the student has to earn a total of 72 credits. The university is following the semester system approach for this programme as the courses are divided into 4 semesters. A student has to earn 18 credits per semester to achieve the total target of 72. There will be common curriculum for Semesters 1, 2, 3 whereas in Semester 4, the university provides an option for students to do specialisation in any one of the available four streams of Chemistry viz. Analytical, Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. In each semester of which 12 credits will pertain to theory courses and 6 credits to lab work.
